This is a very simple problem for an IT guy to fix. It's a problem with the hardware extraction layer .DLL in windows 7/Vista.
It could be caused because the file is corrupt because the computer was incorrectly shut down. It could also be that it's a sign the hard disk is on the way out. In any case. There are easy work arounds if it's just a corrupt file. If it's a failed hard disk it should be a matter of replacement and restoring the backup.
This should cost no more then $500 even if the hard disk needs replacing.
We do not have the budget to replace the security system.
Matt.

Hello All,

I have consulted our IT people for information on the fault (see thread below)
There are 2 options:
1. We attempt to repair the access control computer, this may be successful and hold us over for a while, however as previously reported the system is on its last legs.
2. We revisit the quotes for a replacement system that includes all the back end equipment and new software. The Rosslare access control system gives us the option to utilise the existing card readers and security fobs.
I was able to find a quote from last year which I have attached for reference. A new laptop or similar would be required also to proceed.
If you require further information, please let me know.
Kind regards,

Hi Darren
If it is software issue then approx $250+gst as it would take couple of hours, but if it is hard drive issue then I can cap the charges to $450+gst including the hard drive.
Thank you

Biraj

Hi Biraj,
Unfortunately there is no service agreement in place. If we do go ahead and attempt the repair what estimated costs would be involved?

Good morning Darren That error message could be because of many reasons, it could be the hard drive issue with bad partition, file system corruption or corrupted DLL files. If it was the bad drive/bad sectors then it may or may not have already affected the Access Control System, we can try to repair but cannot guarantee that Access Control System will work. If it was just the corrupted windows system files then chances are Access Control System will work but if other reasons then hard to tell until it is repaired. Do you have support agreement with whoever setup the access control system?
Thank you
Regards Biraj

Good morning Biraj,
The access control computer at Marquis Apartments was off line this morning. When I restarted an error message keeps coming up saying that Windows could not start because the following file is missing: <Windows root>\system32\hal.dll. Please re-install a copy of the file.
The operating system is XP and we don't have a soft copy of the access control software.
Are you able to restore the missing file without damaging the access control system?
Kind regards,
