[200William-EC SP67851] SP 67851 - URGENT Petrol smell in basements

Is it possible we are not being given the real story as to what caused this?
This would be an obvious tactic to avoid liability....

Hi Patrick,
This is a health issue. There are people complaining of
respiratory distress. Our building manager has inspected P4 and
it's clear the smell is still there it makes your eyes water. This
needs to be attended to.

Hi
Matt & Robin,
I was advised only verbally and was waiting for confirmation
in writing form the Building Managers of SP 67850 that there
was no fuel leak and that the smell had dissipated.
This is obviously incorrect from the information below.
Darren, is the smell still apparent today and is it stronger
or getting better?

Darren is it possible to put the car park exhaust on full.
I'm not sure if it's on a time clock or if it goes on with
exhaust fumes. But it might help ventilate the area.

First
time I smelt it was on the balcony on
Saturday night so that lines up. Perhaps
Avis had a spill on Saturday morning and
didnt tell anyone. I guess that's a better
outcome then the tanks leaking and we all
have to leave.
I dont have any experience with tanks with
ULP only diesel which are far less of an
issue as diesel is not classed as
dangerous. ULP is not only highly
flammable but also a carcinogen. It's my
understanding the vents from ULP tanks
should vent way away above the building
where humans can not get near them. Most
Petrol stations now even suck the gas's
back into the nozzles to be processed with
carbon filters before they go into the
atmosphere.
This is a real worry for parents that have
small children in the building. This needs
to be assessed by an expert.

Still
if petrol is escaping into the
sewer that's not really a good
thing. The smell last night was
overpowering in the basement. It's
a little better this morning but
not much. We had to block under
the doors in our apartment last
night to stop the ingress. I
think at this point it has become
a safety issue. Is there anything
further we can do ?

They did not go near the

that Avis get the tank
checked as a precaution.

We
think it might be that the
testing by the hydraulic
engineers Friday may have
stirred up the smell Darren
is checking with them.
