I've heard this noise often too and it's very difficult to distinguish where
it is coming from. Piping, the plant room, the extraction units? Hopefully
it won't continue because, as Matt states, it's very difficult to sleep
under such conditions.

Subject: Re: [200William-EC] The Tapping Noise
It's not always at around that time. On Wednesday it started around 3:30 and
went through to about 6:00. The accompanying loud bang that sometimes
happens is residents of the building searching up and down the fire escape
for the noise. When they exit the fire escape there's a loud bang as the
door slams. I have run into many people searching for the noise. George Im
not sure if you realize but this noise is so loud it would wake all but the
most sound sleepers. It is becoming unbearable and the building unlivable.
Most people I have talked with all say it's directly above their head. No
matter what level they are on. There is so much echo it is very very hard to
track down. There is also the problem that the noise goes for around 10 - 15
seconds then stops for 20 - 30 minutes and then starts again. As soon as you
get dressed and out the door it's stopped. Then you wait for 10 minutes only
to go back to bed to have it start again.
The noise is not in the hydraulic or electrical risers. It's not as loud in
there. It mat be in the lift shaft. It's very loud in there. But not as loud
as it is in my apartment. I have never made it up to the plant room in time
before it stops. It would be best if I camp up there once it starts and see
if I can track it down.
We need to find a solution to this one soon before there are serious
consequences.
Matt.

Hi George and everybody,
The mechanical tapping, which starts at around 5:10AM and continues
spasmodically for a few hours almost every morning must be investigated,
unless everybody is happy to be woken that early.
I wonder George, if a flyer under everone's door asking what they hear,
might be appropriate.
Is there something in the services of the building that switches on at that
time and may be causing the noise (which sounds like metal on wood). It is
still going now at 8AM.
This has been going now for months and I feel must be addressed.

Di
