I agree with Matt & Dianna,
We need a building detective. This problem is as bizarre as it is annoying, and it is plenty of both.
Although there is only a response on the EC email system, I do speak to plenty of people in the building who all blame the tenant directly above. This needs resolution ASAP.
There are accoustic consultants who may be able to help... Overtime rates will be very expensive, but I think worth it.

The accompanying loud bang that sometimes happens is residents of the building searching up and down the fire escape for the noise. When they exit the fire escape there's a loud bang as the door slams. I have run into many people searching for the noise. George Im not sure if you realize but this noise is so loud it would wake all but the most sound sleepers. It is becoming unbearable and the building unlivable. Most people I have talked with all say it's directly above their head. No matter what level they are on. There is so much echo it is very very hard to track down. There is also the problem that the noise goes for around 10 - 15 seconds then stops for 20 - 30 minutes and then starts again. As soon as you get dressed and out the door it's stopped. Then you wait for 10 minutes only to go back to bed to have it start again.

I have never made it up to the plant room in time before it stops. It would be best if I camp up there once it starts and see if I can track it down.
