From an engendering standpoint Hot water comes from an electric heat pump system with storage tanks. Heat pump hot water although environmentally very sound does take a long time to produce large quantities of hot water so as an overflow a gas boiler is used to makeup any shortfall.  Gas is then spent equally by all the lots by the gas company. So normally gas bills are small. If one of the heat pumps goes offline our hot water supply will get lower and the gas boiler will kick in and we will all get charged a little bit for extra gas. So if we loose to many heat pumps owners will start getting larger and larger gas bills.
